book club

Our first book club was a success!

Because it was our first meeting we didn't have a book to discuss yet, so we made bookmarks! I have a super old, torn, beaten down copy of a Richard Scary book that I let the kids cut pictures out of. They glued the pictures onto pre-cut card stock. Then they decorated with markers. Next, we covered both sides with clear packing tape and cut away the excess around the borders. A hole punch at the top, a bit of yarn, and then some beads. Voila!

After the bookmarks were made, and the kids ran around, we gathered in the grass and the kids thought up possible names for their club, the vote was taken, the name given. The Cuckoo Bird Club.

Last, but certainly not least, the first book was chosen. "The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane" by Kate DiCamillo. (author of "Because of Winn-Dixie" and "The Tale of Desperaux").

  1. Emily you are so cute. I love the things you do with your daughters. You are a terrific mommy. I always am reading your posts and telling my mom and auntie kathy what I read. Edward Tulane is one of mine and Rebeccas favorite books. I wish I lived closer so I could join. We hope to see you and Mark and the girls soon. Take Care Lisa
